What Pro adds

PDF/A-3 and Factur-X

Your HTML template and the invoice’s CII XML in, a Factur-X or ZUGFeRD invoice out: a PDF/A-3 that carries the XML, checked against EN 16931. Plain PDF/A too, for archiving. Chromium writes neither.

E-invoicing becomes compulsory: in France, small and mid-sized companies send them from 1 September 2027; in Germany, from 2027 above €800,000 of turnover, from 2028 for all.

Your templates, tested on every version

Send us your templates with sample data. Each new version, Chromium included, renders them before it reaches you, page count checked: you know before you update. Chromium’s security fixes reach you as soon as they pass.

Guarantees in writing

A contractual fix time for critical Chromium flaws. E-mail support with a written response time. Long-term versions: fixes without rendering changes. A package repository of your own, for the version you choose and servers without internet access.

Later

Electronic signatures and timestamps (PAdES, RFC 3161). A high-volume server: a queue, workers on several machines, recovery and monitoring.

Same commands, nothing calls home

Pro answers to the same names, wkhtmltopdf and pdfkiln: no integration changes. A signed license file switches it on, checked on your machine: no call to our servers, and your documents stay with you.

The license is yearly. Versions released before its end keep working for good; later ones need a renewal.

The free pdfkiln stays free

MIT, no key, no limits: the wkhtmltopdf mode, the native interface, wkhtmltoimage, pdfkiln serve, every platform, the latest Chromium in each release. Pro adds what the free edition does not do; it never takes anything away from it.

To start today: install pdfkiln, then follow the migration guide of your library.

Questions

Will the free pdfkiln be limited one day?

No. The core is public and MIT-licensed, with no key and no limit, and will stay so.

What does Factur-X need from me?

Your HTML template as you print it today, and the invoice’s XML in the CII syntax, from your invoicing code or a library. pdfkiln Pro checks the XML and builds the file. Later: the invoice as JSON, from which pdfkiln writes the XML.

Is a Factur-X file enough for the French reform?

It is one of the three accepted formats, but invoices travel through an approved platform (plateforme agréée). pdfkiln Pro makes a valid Factur-X that your platform accepts; it is not a platform.

What counts as a server?

A machine or a container that runs pdfkiln in production; development machines and CI do not count. With Kubernetes or autoscaling, the site license covers all the company’s servers, whatever their number.

When?

Spring 2027, before the French deadline for small and mid-sized companies, 1 September 2027. Waitlist members hear first.
